A Relaxed (not really!) ride to Chunchi Falls

Date of Ride : 17th July 2011
Location : Chunchi Falls

It all started with me and Chandra making a backup plan to ride to somewhere close by if the Team's Ride to BR Hills gets postponed/cancelled. My Manager got his Suzuki Shogun fixed so he was ready to ride and he wanted to ride upto to BR Hills. But there are three new "good looking" girls who joined our team and undergoing traininig currently. Mgr says, "Let them finish the training then lets go!" and I thought "Yeah, hope one of them becomes my pillion" :p. As expected the ride got postponed and paved way for our Chunchi Ride.

We start at 6:30 AM on Sunday from BSK Temple. It was all cloudy but I wasn't expecting any rain since it had rained the whole night previous evening! We start off with a chai-break somewhere after Metro. It starts drizzling. I don't really prefer riding in rain as visibility drops hence reducing the speeds and adding to that the "World Famous in India" TVS' Slippery Tires. But I had decided it to be a "Relaxed" slow ride so the drizzling did not really matter. We start off after the much needed morning tea. Even though it was almost 7 AM, Kanakpura Rd wasn't that empty. The ride on that road was as usual, "Zig-Zag-Overtake-Brakeeee". We reach Kanakapura at around 7:45 and finish up yummy breakfast at "Some" Sagar hotel. We took a left at the second circle in Kanakapura onto the Sangam road. This road seemed like it was newly laid.
.

Though the road was so good, it was all wet so couldn't enjoy it to the core. The bike, we and our LS2s were all covered with slush spray :p

The road then turns into a small village road and makes us wonder if we really were on the right path. Then we spot a board showing direction towards the falls. The road even though patchy and narrow was scenic!
.

.

After asking directions to many people we finally reach the spot to find it dry and dusty and no sight of any water, let alone the Falls!
.

.
THen we notice few people treading down a path which wold finally lead to the river bed. Some pics on the way to the the river bed.

We arrive at the river bed and are awestruck with how beautiful the river carves out the rocks. Some pics

That's how deep the gorge was...

.
Pinky, the Dragon :p

.

We were disappointed by the meager water at the place that too in a rainy season. But we suddenly spot a water fall at the end of the gorge! :omg:
.

.
This really gets us going and we try searching for a way to that place. But then realize that it might be from the place we started. So we start our way back eager to see the other falls. On the way we meet an old man who directed us to the place. It was a long walk around the small hill to even have a look at the water fall. A walk though dry farmlands, thorn-ridden plants and slippery surface added all to our woes. But when we reached the spot, we forgot everything...
.

.

This place was completely deserted. Not a single soul in sight. Even this river bed was all rocky and inviting. But it was a longgg way down and all we had was a two 500 ml bottles with water half filled.
.

.

At last we were at the river bed. It was the first water fall i ever visited that was so lonely. So peaceful.
.

.
What I wouldn't have given to be under this...

It was getting cloudy and we did not want to take the risk of making the climb in the rain, as the hill was very steep. So we halfheartedly started back. After a lot of huffing-puffing and treating our 500 ml water as gold drinking only few drops at a time, we reached the top!
It was 12:15 PM. I was surprised that we spent such a long time here. We decided to head back and even though we were tired after the climb I was all eager to ride coz the roads would be dry now and that would be fun :D So we rip through at an avg speed of 90 kmph, take a Mazaa break at some village. It was the fatest i ever drank half a liter of Mazaa :p. We decide to have lunch at Bangalore, and we set off to Blore to perform the "Zig-Zag-Overtake-Brakeeee" maneuver on the Kanakapura road once again!
